    Patience

On thinking further about patience, the virtue seems to me to be needed only because of a future-oriented way of living. And, (thinking of the appearance/existence distinction we are discussing in the Time workshop) - what if we can learn just be content with what is arising, appearing, in the present moment? Patience seems required because we often expect things to happen as we have planned or expected. Why don't we drop all expectations and anticipations? Why do we expect such regular behaviour from such an unpredictable, complex universe? Why do we expect to be able to exercise such a large amount of control over it?

Perhaps patience is ultimately an unnecessary virtue.
